About Us

Welcome to the website of The White Hart folk Club, Mickleby. Our club was inaugurated 28th of November 1992 by Jim and Mu Wilkinson and Alan King. Jim and Mu later ran the folk club every Saturday evening excepting Christmas and New Years Eve date conflicts and of course the Legendary, and for the last thirty plus years twice-yearly Black Bull Benders. The family have now decided to cancel the Bender weekends due to advancing years of the organisers and difficulties setting up the barn,Thanks to all for your support over the past decades.

Jim, Mu and family members ran the club for many years presenting many great nights until Jim suffered increasing health problems eventually leading to his very sad passing, I was fortunate to help with the maintenance of the clubs continuity until Kevin Hall took over, running it until early 2016 with his excellent management skills and MC-ship. Thanks Kevin!

Since early 2016 the club has been run by regular members sharing duties and MC-ship, meetings are held when situations and decisions need to be made. The Club is a member of the EFDSS (English Folk Dance and Song Society) We do not charge a membership fee.The club is widely known for its high standard of singing and instrument playing and is a great ‘joining in’ club. It includes among its membership some fine and well-known musicians and singers. Audiences come from near and far and we welcome singers and musicians of all ages and experiences, our oldest performer is Giles Heron a mere 90yrs of age. One of the clubs great aims and strengths is to give every encouragement to performers of every ability. We are a small club but we have a great reputation for fine chorus singing, to which many professional artists who have been our guests can attest.

Our club now has a new landlord and landlady, Bob and Hazel Montgomery who support the folk club and welcome and provide us with a room totally separate from the bar area. The beers and lagers are a very reasonable price (and kept well)  Tea and Coffee is also served,  Toasted snacks may be available.

The club is at the moment being provisionally organised by Colin and Heather Mather, please contact them for further information.

This site will be periodically  updated for Club and Bender programme information.
